MidPoint Cafe in Adrian, Texas is the "official" halfway point between Chicago and Santa Monica on Route 66. It's also another "Cars" inspiration, both for a place and for people. Fran, the owner at the time, became Flo, running the V8 Cafe. Our waitress Cristina, along with her sister, became Mia and Tia, the Miata Twins.
Dennis and Donna Purschwitz are the new owners, and reopened the cafe on March 21st. They are great people, and spent a lot of time talking with us about the history of the cafe, as well as the history of Route 66 in general. Glad they've reopened a must-see for Route 66 travelers!
While talking to Dennis and Donna, we had the "ugly crust pie" the MidPoint is famous for. Both the apple and the chocolate chip were yummy!
